Moving to sky from virgin
Hi Folks
2 weeks ago me n the missus decided it was time to leave the world of virgin media behind us, weve had a torrid 13 months with them and their so called 10mb broadband, which is actually 2mb come 6pm for the rest of the evening..
Anyway we now hae a shiney new dish and the sky+ box installed v happy with the tv package, we're now just waiting for the phone to be sorted out.
When i was talking with the sales person at sky i told them i would like the sky+ with just the variety pack, the phone inc line rental and the top max broadband, this was confirmed as fine and we then confirmed the price of £36.50 a month for all 3, was told we would have to order the bb again once the phone had been switched over.
Right so onto tonght... i get in from work and the better half informs me virgin have rang and they were calling back to talk to me, aparaently they were trying to entice us back. and an hour later they did indeed phone me, the woman then proceeded to say that our unhappiness with the broadband was the main reason to leave them, of which i confirmed, she then went on to say along the lines of we would be lucky to get more than 2-3 mb with sky and that their bb was rubbish, she used to be a sky customer etc etc, she then mentioned samknows and that they state the 3mb estimate, i told her i wasnt interested she rudly said "well when you do discover this to be true.." i just hung up on her
so who is right? has sky pulled a fast one and told me what i want to hear or were virgin just scare mongoring and trying anythign to get us back?
your help and advice is appreciated
Cheers
Kev

Hi Kev had a look at your exchange and it has Sky LLU installed on the 06/07/2007 so you would be able to get Sky unlimited (Max)

Re: Moving to sky from virgin
When you order the BB ask Sky what speed you will get. You can check yourself on the samknows website , and from then you will be able to work out which package is best for you. Whatever package you use, you will not suffer from Traffic shaping as your exchange is LLU

Re: Moving to sky from virgin
Your speed will be linked to your line attenuation ( distance from the exchange) . Once installed it will also be linked to your physical telephone set up

Hi Kev you can ask if it is Sky Unlimited that is Sky`s LLU also when you log on to your My Sky under Broadband click on service details you will get your service information there. As Postman Pat says

Re: Moving to sky from virgin
Kevbaz,
I wouldn't pay too much attention to the predicted speed from samknows or indeed from sky.
It will all depend on your line atttenuation, which you'll find out when you get set up.
However as an example, my speed estimate from sky is 6mb, which i am set to migrate to soon i hope.
At the mo i'm on UKonline (same LLU provider as Sky) but I get the full 16mb eg syncing at 16k
Also when i signed up for Ukonline the prediction was also 4-6mb.
