Migrate from Ukonline to Sky (LLU)

Hiya, i'm new around here and as the title suggests i'am considering moving over to SkyBB.

Currently I'm on UKonline (LLU) and pay £25 for it, +£11 Bt line.
If I go Sky I can get Sky + HD and BB and phone line for only £15 more per month, makes sense to me.

I'm assuming my BB speed will be identical to what i get with UKonline as its all Easynet.
Is this a fair assumption ?
My line stats are
DSL Status: UP
DSL Modulation Mode: Auto
DSL Path Mode: INTERLEAVED
Downstream Rate: 15997 Kbps
Upstream Rate: 1023 Kbps
Downstream Margin: 7 db
Upstream Margin: 8 db
Downstream Line Attenuation: 28
Upstream Line Attenuation: 15
Downstream Transmit Power: 22
Upstream Transmit Power: 12
LOS Errors: 0

The main point of this post thou is to get the lowdown on moving from Ukonline to Sky.
I was told my Ukonline I can have my MAC code, but it may not work with SKY.

1)Is this true ?
2)If this is the case whats my options ? eg how to i go about getting on sky max
3)is there a danger there may be no place left on my exchange if have to first cancel Ukonline then set up a new line with Sky ?

Any thoughts or ideas welcome,

look forward to hanging around and getting involved on here when i'm all up and running

Update** See post no 25 for conclusion. Yes it all went fine !!!

Re: Migrate from Ukonline to Sky (LLU)

Okay, guess no-one knows anything then about my queries !

Well just for others who may be in my shoes....

The UKonline MAC code I just recieved was NOT accepted by SKY. It returned an error as being invalid.

Just phoned SKY sales for some advice.
After waiting 20mins to get through to someone, I was connected with someone who was quite frankly clueless.
He didn't know what LLU was, had never even heard of Ukonline & couldn't answer any of my questions about the best way to order my new sky package so I would have minimum downtime to my Internet connection.

If this is the taste of things to come.........

I'm gonna sleep on it for a few days before I commit buying anything from this company.

As you have found you cannot move from UKonline to Sky as they are essentially the same ISP so MAC will not work.

You will need to cancel with UKOnline then when your broadband stops wait up to 10 days for the cease order to clear your line. You will then have a clear line enabling you to place a fresh Sky tv, broadband and phone order.

Unfortunately you will have to be without broadband for 25 days. 10 day cease and up to 15 days to re-provide. It could be less than this and it probably won't be more but no one will be able to say with absolute certainty.

Wow thanks for this, i've finally got something concrete to work on.

Do i have to wait for the line to be clear before placing the new order thou, Or can the order be placed successfully only when the line is clear ?

Also how does one know when the line is clear , Do you have to keep phoning BT wholesale to check ?

And finally (this is my biggest worry), but is there a chance or is it likely over the 25 days I could lose 'my place' as it were in the exchange for LLU and get stuck on sky connect ?

The order cannot be placed until the line is clear.

You can keep calling Sky or you can just wait a full 10 days then call.

Do you know for a fact that the exchange is FULL?

Phone Sky before you do anything and check how many spaces there are on your exchange. When we run a DSL check it states the number of ONNET Available ports for the exchange. If its a busy exchange then usually you can get connect at £5 until there is a place.

Yes, you need to phone Sky sales. They sell a lot of broadband and most agents are pretty knowledgeable about broadband. You must have been unfortunate or got a new agent.

When they run the dsl check the number of ports available is shown on their screen. Even if they don't know what it means, I'm sure if you prompt them to they could tell you.

Re: Migrate from Ukonline to Sky (LLU)

There is an alternate which should keep you online. Migrate to an ISP who has a one month notice clause and then migrate to Sky. This should overcome the MAC problem.
