      Wireless works, ethernet doesnt...help!

So wireless works fine on my laptop, but when i connect it to ethernet for download speeds, it always says acquiring network address and eventually fails. Settings are on auto ip address etc, but when i look at the ip config it says that ethernet ip address is 0.0.0.0

What do i have to do to fix this?Any help is appreciated

Could possibly be a firewall issue, if you have a software firewall, ie Zone Alarm etc try disabling it briefly and see it the IP resolves instead of acquiring.

Assuming you are on XP, go to the Control Panel and open Network Connections. You should see 'Local Area Network', if it is shown as disconnected, right click and select Connect. If it is not shown or will not connect, have a look in the Device Manager, see if your Network card is shown with a yellow '!'. If it is, it probably just needs the drivers reinstalled. Right click and select 'Properties' then the Reinstall driver button. You may need to point to the driver location.
