slow speeds on non LLU 'mid' package

This is a discussion on slow speeds on non LLU 'mid' package within the Sky Broadband help forums, part of the Sky Broadband help and support category; I've been on the 5 package since 1 March, but my speeds are abysmal. The Sky Router 'status' page says ...

slow speeds on non LLU 'mid' package

I've been on the 5 package since 1 March, but my speeds are abysmal. The Sky Router 'status' page says the following:

      DownStream Connection Speed 3168 kbps
      UpStream Connection Speed 448 kbps

But any web pages load very very slow.

I have tried to test the connection via Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test, but the test never completes as it always gets stuck at the 'download' stage.

In contrast, my Pipex connection (which I catch from my next door house), shows the following on Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test

      924Kbs download
      243Kbs upload
      34Ms ping

Should I be worried about the state of my line?

Sky couldnt help me and have now contacted BT to check my line. Has anyone else had similar issues and how were they resolved?

I'm very close to cancelling Sky BB (if I can ) as the speeds are a lot slower than i expected.

If this is your first time on 8mb ADSL (MaxADSL) then it is likely that the slow speeds you are seeing are a result of the "10-day training period". What broadband speed and ISP have you switched from?

its a new connection in this house so previously this line was not enabled.

I am on the 'mid range' package, but my line is not 'LLU enabled' yet.

In which case you are definitely on the ADSL Max 10-day training period. IE. You are generally capped to about a 2mb connection while BT's equipment at the exchange analyses your line and decides your optimum speed. Give it AT LEAST 10 days before you consider your options. This would have been the same had you signed up for any non-LLU ISP. It is not a Sky issue, although I would have hoped that support would have been able to advise you of this!

thanks for the reply. I guess i will have to play the waiting game then .... I did contact Sky's broadband support and they couldnt find anything nor advised me to wait a bit longer. Apparently BT will contact me in the next 48 hours to tell me what might be wrong with the line.

I'll stick to your advice and wait a few more days before getting worried ...

Re: slow speeds on non LLU 'mid' package

      hi all

Its been 11 days since I was connected to Sky. My speeds HAVe improved very slightly, and according to speedtest.net the fastest i have got is equivalent to around 0.5Mb connection. But even this is quite an achievement as I mostly get speeds slower than this.

What are my options? Can I cancel with Sky ?

Re: slow speeds on non LLU 'mid' package

just a quick update on this ... more than two weeks after being connected and my speeds are now very stable at around 2Mb/s according to speedtest.net - i got worried a little too early i think but the BT line testing definitely went over the first 10 days.

Can't wait till they LLU enable me
