just ordered sky broadband but now I'm worried....

... because I dont use windows, I use Linux. From what I've read, I have to use Sky's windows software to get connected?

I don't see why this should be neccessary? OK, I have to (reluctantly) use Sky's router, but once this is connected to sky's network it shouldn't matter what hardware/software is connected to the router's ports??? What's special about Sky's software? Apparently I have to use IE7? Why???? Any web browser should do, surely? This rings of the bad old days of ISP software that was intrusive, bad and couldn't be uninstalled?

I consider myself bit of a techie, I like messing with chanels and ports and stuff, I frequently change my PC's OS (various flavors of linux) ,I have multiple devices/software connected to my existing network. Is Sky broadband for me? I still have time to cancel. My reason for moving is cost, it's just sooooo cheap!

Oh, and hi, this is my first post!

      Cheers, Renners

Don't worry, the thing about IE refers to the installation CD -- if you read posts on this site you'll see that there's no need to even unpack the disc. If you know enough about computers to run Linux (it beats me every time, tho my experience of computers goes back to the DOS days) you'll have no trouble with connecting to Sky.
