Unhappy How do you get more than one computer,laptop/console connected to the internet?

      Hi,

We have a Desktop PC running Windows XP, one Nintendo Wii, and a Laptop also running Windows XP

      when I have the;

      Laptop or Laptop and Wii
      Desktop or Desktop and Wii

...they stay on the net and work as expected.

If I have the Laptop and the Desktop running they can both get on the net after rebooting the router, but for only about 5/10 minutes before they both disconnect.

They sometimes both say they are still connected via the icon in the bottom right even though i cant get any access to webpages and sometimes either one or both have an extra LAN connection in addition to the wireless network (which it seems to be running through) These are shown in the network connections window.

All my devices are wireless by the way. The Laptop has some wireless card or something inside, My Desktop has one of those USB dongle things and the Wii seems to sort itself out.

Please help me to get my Laptop, Desktop and Wii online at the same time.

      Thanks,
      Spence

Have you turned uPNP off in the router menu?

shall try it now and get back to you, thanks.

what is uPNP and what does it do. I dont understand the description in the routers settings. Will this have an effect on how secure my router/internet will be from others?

Thumbs up Re: How do you get more than one computer,laptop/console connected to the internet?

Seems to be working. All 3 have been on about 30 mins which is twice as long as ever before so I guess they are thinking of staying connected this time. Ill let you know tomorrow if they stayed on for a while.

      Thanks alot.

What is upnp (universal plug and play) it sounds like something that shouldnt be off? It wont affect how secure it is from others (hackers and nieghbours or hacking nieghbours) will it?

      Thanks again,
      Spence

Smile Re: How do you get more than one computer,laptop/console connected to the internet?

      Hi,

uPnP is designed to assist with port forwarding. There is a bug in the sky router implementation of uPnP which results in frequent disconnections.
There are many references to this throughout these forums. Search the forums for more info.
There is no security risk in turning it off.
