      just connected

just connected to sky broadband from aol was slightly worried as while the switch was going on both adsl and the telephone was offline.

im about half a mile from the exchange
      my stats are

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 15323 kbps 764 kbps
Line Attenuation 31.5 db 17.9 db
Noise Margin 10.1 db 12.0 db

my line attenation has jumped from 21 on adsl max to 31 on sky is this usual ?

my speed has increased from about 6.7mb to 13.1mb so im happy

is there any use in trying to squeeze more speed or have i reached my limit ?

      thanks

      Re: just connected

You realise that there are people on here who would kill for those speeds?

      Re: just connected

i know and i am happy with what ive got

but since ive got somebodys attention

on adsl 2 is the connection speed always 15323 or can it go to 16mb ?

if i reduced my noise margin to 8 or 9 would i get any increase in speed and does it go back to original settings once the router is rebooted ?

i'll probably leave it as it is although am tempted to use the utility to get my username and password

      Re: just connected

Firstly, a higher noise margin is better. Secondly I'm not quite techie enough to tell if you could squeeze a bit more out your connection, but to me your attenuation suggests that you are near the limit of your possible speed. Have you tried connecting the router directly to the master socket to see what your stats are then? that may give you a better indication of what you can get and how much noise is generated by your internal wiring.

Link for testing the master socket is on the right-hand side of this page.
