waiting to be switched over to sky broadband

      Hi all

Signed up with sky for the max package.

currently with plusnet, due to low speeds and download limit i thought i would try sky broadband.

the installer came with the sky router but obviously he could not set up the router because i m still with plus net, waiting for engineers to switch me to sky.

I already have a netgear modem serving two pc.( wired)

The engineer told me i will recieve a letter from sky telling me approx when i will be switched, and when i lose the internet connection all i need to do is replace my netgear modem with the sky netgear modem and load the installation CD. ( was not that helpful)

Have i been told the correct information and is there anything else i need to do before sky broadband is activated ??

Can i use my existing modem??

Also i use outlook express to pick up my e mails, and i would like to continue this.

      kind regards

      bluemoon

Yes you have been told the correct information, the user name and password are hidden within the firmware on the router, so when the line becomes active just plug in and it should work! you dont even need the CD it is just a guide of what to plug where and a few help pages which it downloads to your pc.
If you want to use a different router you need to extract your user name and password from the Sky router, there is help on how to do this on this forum in the router thread, it is not visible within the Sky router menu and cannot be changed. It is against your Sky terms and conditions to use a different router although many people do when they have had issues with the sky router.
