      Another stuck in the middle thread

      ok, joined the community to help out a friend - scenario as follows:

      On AOL broadband - decides to move to new 26 deal on sky for phone tv & BB

      Gets MAC code from AOL, gives it to Sky & signs up - Told not on sky area for BB, but will get BT BB at subsidised rate for time being.

      Gets BB confirmation letter, engineer fits dish, just waiting for modem through post.

      Aol goes off, no modem a day or three pass - calls Sky, they tell him he cant have sky BB, not in his area. Points out letter and fact he will be on subsidised BT BB. Sky person then comes back with - you cant have it as exchange is at capacity - it wont be expanded until 2009!

      I have checked LCCOP, his local exchange and it does not appear to be oversubscribed from what I have been able to find, but can anyone suggest what he does next. AOL have ceased their end, but sky say he cant have it as there is no space.....

      Ideally what I would like to find out is - are ports allocated at the exchange by provider? Will his physical port have to move as he goes from AOL to BT/Sky or is it simply a config thing. Secondly - is there a way to check if he has anything still associated in the way of a BB connection so that he may go back to AOL if BT/Sky is really as they say not an option.

      At the moment he is looking at no BB for 2 years!

      If he can get BT broadband through Sky ie the Connect package, then he is in the hands of the gods.

      Normally capacity is added all the time though so I would have thought won't be off for long.

      Get your friend to ring Service recovery 02392 899292 and see if they can cast any light.
