Hi murdock, although i use the unbranded router i still use a software firewall as well.

The one i use is Kerio

download the trial and if you want to buy it do so after 30 days, little tip wait for them to email you with the discount coupon tho before you buy it

They always send it before the trial runs out so don't buy it the next day after downloading the trial if you are impressed with it

      Hi GBKing

At least u know what the culprit was and what ur dealing with.
I use Zone Alarm im not familiar with ur firewall u say its based on Zone Alarm, what i did was after a few hrs i started ZA up again and on main tab in programme control put the slider to low level and re-enabled to start on start up again rebooted the pc to make sure it was stable and left it on low for a few days then turned it back up to medium level where it was in the first place now works fine more trial and error really let me know how u get on.

      Regards

      Steve

Just checked my BT online account and it looks like I have spent 4hrs 23mins on the phone to Sky "Support", costing 7.83

What are the chances that Sky will knock that off my next bill?

Thing is, I've now got another lenthy call to look forward to latter this week. I still need to speak to them about removing the 5kbps limit on my line.

I originally signed up for maX pack but realised within 30 mins I really should have said the mid package as there was never any possiblity of me getter now or in he near future up to 16mps (under maXdsl only got 1mb due to line quality and length)

Anyway I rang back after 1 hour. really not a lot of help, in fact didn't know how to reverse procedure. Rang the neXt day and finally the neXt and managed to get someone to reverse the request to mid package. Kept my cool but it can be done. Paid the 20 connection fee and now just waiting to go live on the 7th.

It's just occurred to me that I might just ring sky to confirm my package ( you never know!! )

My firewall is still not running - I'll probably start it up in a day or 2. Is that ok from your experience? Sure, if problems start again I'll just go through the process again and never start it up.

      Cheers

      @Steve
Thank you for helping GPKing I am sure that he and other users will be very happy to have another possible workaround if they have a similar problem.

Some Advice.. Its always advisable to inform your old ISP as soon as you have migrated that you have moved.

Maybe you managed to downgrade to Mid due to the fact that you are not yet on SkyBB. The impression that I got from more than 1 Sky rep was that as soon as you make the initial connection to the service, thats it - you're locked into that service for 12 months.

After all the hassle that I have gone through and time/money wasted on phone calls, I think I'll stick with "Max". Downgrading will probably be too much hassle for me. Maybe I should change my surfing habits and start taking advantage of the "unlimited" transfers. Thats given me an idea for a whole new thread
