      Won't connect - getting searchme100???

      Hi
I'm new here and I'm writing on behalf of my daughter. Theyve only had their sky package for a couple of months and this is the third or fourth time they've had this problem. Basically they're not able to connect to the internet - it brings up a blank page and the address bar reads searchme100>??? They're not able to ring tech support so wondered if anybody here knew what this was about? It's infuriating that they're paying a fee and it's going down all the time!

Thanks very much for any help you can give.

      Re: Won't connect - getting searchme100???

      Hi

Doing a quick google on searchme100 shows nothing at all information wise.

On the issue of this showing, it sounds to me like it could be a browser hijack, which would not be anything at all to do with Sky.

      I would try,

      1) Downloading this onto her PC http://downloads.grisoft.cz/softw/70...p-7.5.0.50.exe

Once downloaded, install and do a scan, just to see if anything nasty is lurking on her PC.

Once you have tried that post back if it finds anything etc.

The other thing to try, would be a virus scan on the PC as well, a good trial software is this one.

Has you daughter run a full spyware and virus scan on her PC as there might be something on there that is stopping it connecting to the internet.

      EDIT - beaten to it.

Thanks for your prompt replies. I can't do anything on her PC as i'm 80 miles away, but last time I was there I downloaded Avasti anti virus so I will tell her to run that. however, she is very new to computers and doesn't really know what to do so that will be fun. I will let you know. Thanjks again

Can you ring her and ask her to read this thread?

Then she can download the programs straight from the links etc.

You could use something like this if you want to help her from your own computer as it will enable you to control her PC from yours:

      https://secure.logmein.com/home.asp

You need to se up an account then install the software of your PC, let her know what your account details are (username and password) so she can then log in and install the same software on her computer. When she has done that you should be able to control her computer as you will see her desktop. I use this to help by brother out from time to time as he lives 25 miles away so it is not always easy to get to his.

She can't get on the internet to download it - I have left her running Avast anti virus and will callher back at around 8.45.

That sounds good but I presume she would need to be able to connect to the internet to run it?

      Re: Won't connect - getting searchme100???

Oh no, she connects fine and then suddenly it goes down for 2 to 3 days. She was using it on saturday. Tonight she went on to the internet and it brings up just a blank page with searchme100 in the address bar...doesn't let them go to any sites though. This is the same as what happened last time when it was down for 2 or 3 days and Sky said it was a fault their end?
