Wireless light not on - Sky not helping

I have had Sky broadband since Sept 06.It has worked wirelessly since the first day I had it.

Since Wednesday of this week I have not been able to connect wirelessly.
The wireless light no longer stays on.It will flicker for about a second if I turn the power on and off but that's it.

I called Sky yesterday and they told me it was because my wireless USB adaptor was not a Sky one (it's a safecom 54Mbps IEEE 802.11g model SWMULZ-5400).I explained that it had been working for 5 months so that can't be correct.Basically they said that unless i get a Sky adaptor then they won't help me any further.

The safecom adaptor works fine.It is not broken.

I've tried the reset on the back of router and all the other things Sky suggest.Logging on to 192.168.0.1 and checking settings etc.

My internet light works and I'm currently connected using the ethernet cable.

Is the wireless part of my router broken? What do I do as Sky won't replace it?

Where can I buy Sky adaptor from.Does anyone have a link to the item on Sky's website? I can't find it anywhere?

Will it actually help if I buy one?

Could you check in the routers wireless settings to see if wireless is enabled or disabled?

      Then its Wireless Settings!

It's enabled. The sky customer service went through that with me.
I also took encryption off and tried that as they suggested.

If you do need a Sky adapter just give them a a call I believe 20 has been touted on the boards.

Then have you tried a hard reset?

Start by making a backup of the current config, As it will have all the open/closes port details!

Then from behind the router, Hit the reset button with a pin, Hold that down for a few secs for the lights to flicker, And see what happens!

If that doesnt work, Then ask Sky for another router?

Rosie, I dont think that will help as this ACTUAL routers wireless isnt working!

Thanks for the advise but I can't get another router from Sky.

They keep telling me that the problem is with my adaptor.I suppose it's standard protocol for them to say this as it's not one they recommend.I know the problem is with the router but they won't budge.I've tried 3 times.I've even tried telling them I have got a sky adaptor but unfortunately when they ask me to read out network adaptor information I get rumbled.

should I just get a sky adaptor and then they can't argue?

I suppose I can send the adaptor back for a refund once they finally agree the router is faulty.

      Any other ideas?

Re: Wireless light not on - Sky not helping

The wireless light should be on on the router with or without a wireless connection (as far as I know - mine is).

There is no adapter connecting to it and the light is on, so it looks like an excuse again. (The light is to indicate wether the wireless is enabled or not, I just tried disabling and re-enabling it and the light went off then back on.)
