Thinking of moving to sky ...when to cancel current provider?

Hope someone can help. I am thinking of moving from NTL FREEDOM to sky package but am a little nervous as I have never migrated before.

      How to go about it?
Once I get MAC from ntlfreedom and then join sky, when do I cancel my account with ntl?

Once I am connected with sky will my monthly payments cease with ntl, or will they charge for another month or full month... for instance if I am connected just after my monthly direct debit has gone through?

Do they expect a month's notice? I don't want to pay two providers during the process of changing.

      I hope this makes sense!

Make sure you don't cancel 'till your migration to Sky has actually taken place
& your Sky connection has been activated. Once the Sky is active, then cancel the ntlfreedom.

May be best to send ntlfreedom a letter via Recorded Delivery, as well as phoning to cancel.

I don't know about full/part month charges, but I assume your initial 12 month contract with ntlfreedom has finished?

Thank you for your help both for clearing that up for me, I don't understand why I'm so nervous about switching - I suppose I have read so much and there are so many having had problems. I guess there's a lot of luck involved!

Switching is the easy part, its if your sky router works thats the hard part

Tezcatlipoca, sorry didn't answer your question before but yes, I have been with ntl freedom for a few years.

Oh Tomd84, please don't put a jinx on me before I pluck up the courage to switch!

      "CYMRAES"

Having read this post I presume you have or need to get a BT phone line to be able to have sky.

Is sky enabled for your exchange?

Re: Thinking of moving to sky ...when to cancel current provider?

Beephe, I already have a BT line, ntl freedom is not cable, and I am already a sky customer with sky tv. At the moment paying 24.99 ntl freedom for broadband (2mb) and talk anytime, paying 15 for sky tv (2 mixes) total 39.99.

If I switch to sky package at 26 tv (6 mixes) sky broadband and talk anytime I shall be saving 10 a month!

Re: Thinking of moving to sky ...when to cancel current provider?

Hadn't realised that about NTL presumed it was all cable.

Although I didn't move from NTL, I was wary of making the move from Plusnet. All was working well but it was the thought of making a saving of 17 month that finally pursuaded me to take the plunge.

Some start up delays - but since going live everything great - faster speed and money in the bank. Don't wait make the change.
