      Migrated from Orange Broadband

      Applied on 25/09/2007
      Modem sent 29/09/2007
      Activated on 04/10/2007
Modem was delayed by Parcel Force not able to find my address. Had to call to the depot to collect, so I should have got the modem on 01 October.

Orange had me on 2MB even thou i was paying for an "up to 8MB" service, said my line wouldnt support any faster. It would appear they were lying!

Migrated from NDO/Namesco Broadband. Was on 512k unlimited paying 20 per month! Service/support was good enough with low pings, but it was really annoying as they were just not competitive. (e.g. new pakages are same price and only have 1gb per month download! how crap is that!)
Would warn people off them as ther are not good vfm any more, they are obviously not interested in attracting new customers. On the way down.

Now on Sky Max 16mb - 10 per month.

      Applied on 27/09/2007.
      Modem sent 02/10/2007
Activated on 05/10/2007 at 10am. Excellent speed of delivery!

No probs so far, was getting slightly below what I expected with line att, but just took good advice from "Saturday" and 16mbps speed is now smokin! (coming from 512k its amazing!!).
No down time (as of yet- fingers crossed), but feel this is easily the best VFM broadband out there at the moment. Feel sorry for the poor suckers still with NDO

9/10 to Sky. So far, so good!

Re: Activated now then please post info here

      Hi,

Joined the forum today - here are my activation details:

      Sky Broadband Max

      Order Date: Sunday 21st October
Migration: from Freeserve (now Orange) 512kbs
      Router Arrived: Wednesday 24th October
      Connection Due: Wednesday 31st October
Actually Connected: Wednesday 31st October (sometime between 8am and 1pm)

      Up sync speed: 768kbs
Down sync speed: 8000kbs (see below)
Distance from the exchange: 400mtrs (direct line)

Line Attenuation: 11.0db (Down), 8.0db (Up)
Noise Ratio: 16.1db (Down), 14.0db (Up)

When the line was first activated, connection speed was painfullly slow (worse than 512kbs). Spoke to BBTechnical 1st Tier. They couldn't help, and 2nd Tier was busy. Suggested I call back sometime after 9pm. Went to call back, but when I tried the internet, I was now getting in the region of 12-14mbs, so very happy!

On 1st November, the router dropped connection during the day and didn't reconnect. Had to reboot the router. Did this twice more Thursday evening. Sky have capped the line at 8mbs, and everything now seems stable. They are going to increase the cap gradually until max. stable speed is reached.

Overall - no complaints so far!

      Sky Broadband Mid

      Order Date: Thurs 11th October
      Migration: from Virgin 8Mb
      Router Arrived: Tues 16th October
      Connection date 22nd October
      Connected 22nd October

      Up sync speed: 416kbs
Down sync speed: 8096kbs (see below)

Line Attenuation: 15.5db (Down), 17.0db (Up)
Noise Ratio: 13.5db (Down), 14.0db (Up)

Eventually on line 30th October due to being unable to get an ip address caused by a stale session and having to wait for a replacement router which wasn't the problem.

Talking Re: Activated now then please post info here

Previously with Vigin where I got a measly 192kbs per second some night with a max of 2800 to 3100 as the best i ever achieved.

This gives me between 3100 and 7001 and that is just tonight depending onto which part of europe I connect to - oddly the worst speed comes from speedtests.net specific server in dublin - it must be drinking guiness....

Here are the stats from my router - I got one of the new ones that looks like a mini HD box!!! (wish it gave me mini HD as well)

      Modem
      ADSL Firmware Version 6.02.01.00
      Modem Status Connected
      DownStream Connection Speed 8160 kbps
      UpStream Connection Speed 768 kbps
      VPI 0
      VCI 38

I know the attenuation on my line is 37 so I expected to be getting around 12Mb but this is evening one..... so we can watch and wait.

I did not see any downtime (but i was out enjoying myself today not watching for the light to go green on my router)

We shall see it cannot be as bad as the connection I used to get from Virgin.... THAT WAS REALLY BAD

      Ordered 14/11/07
Adsl to be set up on 26/11/07
      Adsl syncing and connecting 23/11/07

      Code:
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 288 kbps 288 kbps
Line Attenuation 42 db 14.5 db
Noise Margin 31 db 29 db
Unfortunatly my speed has stuck like that the past 3 days is it likely that sky have capped my connection?
