The lights are on but no-one's home

I've been experiencing some problems getting the router to co-operate - and now I have, I still can't get on. Managed to get an active connection with a laptop - but not with my PC. Keep thinking that it must be something to do with my settings. What should I see in my network settings ? I seem to have two LAN connections (one of which I think is left over from Talk Talk so I have disabled it) and then an 'internet connection'.
Everything looks like it is working. I even have two little icons on my desktop one of whcih says 100mbps and the other 6mbps - so everything looks like it on, but when I open internet explorer it tells me to check my internet connection settings. have checked that it says never dial a connection and automatically detect settings.

What else could it be ?

I used to get this with TalkTalk - and with them I never ever did find out what was going on and I made them go bye-bye.

Please help me I am weak and tiny.

Re: The lights are on but no-one's home

in Internet Explorer go to Tools, Internet Options, Connections tab, then Lan Settings (near the bottom). Anything there?

Can you log into the router?

      http://192.168.0.1

      Username: admin
      Password: sky

Also, go to start - run, type in cmd then OK/return.
Type ipconfig and press return. Should be

      IP Address........... 192.168.0.2
      Subnet Mask........ 255.255.255.0
      Default Gateway... 192.168.0.1

Re: The lights are on but no-one's home

Thanks for this. I can get into the router and it shows me the line speed.

The IP address is in the LAN settings also.

That's why I can't understand why it won't work. it also tells me when I connect that I ahve a line speed of 6meg and that the Local Area connection is active.

When you say the IP address in the LAN settings do you mean the proxy? Which IP address?

Oh, this is Connect I see. Does connect need a proxy? I'd best pass on this one, I don't know connect.
