I did run BroadbandMax. It is coming out pretty much like the earlier one: 393 download speed, 643 upload. I'll try Ellwell but I don't anticipate a dazzling display of broadband speed and dexterity.

Do I just swap them over or do I need to do anything to the new router to configure it?

      Just swap them over.

I must say I'm surprised (and disappointed) that you are getting the same results. Let's see what the new router does, but I'm kind of expecting the same. Let's just wait and see though.

If we get the same then we definitely have a software problem... but let's not pre-empt too much...

Woooooooo hooooooooo!!!!! Come here Steve and let me give you a big kiss (insert big kiss smilie here <--)

I swapped the router over and have just run Elwell. Result: UK download speed 11003kbps!! That's with the ethernet. Now I'll play with the wireless connection and if all goes well I'll be able to move the machinery back where it belongs and test it out in my office.

Speed test on wireless: 5503. And zero packet loss for the first time. OK, 5MB is not 16MB, but I'm not complaining

      Re: Dismally Poor Speed

Having just finished reading this thread as you plugged in your new router, I have the answer I need. Thank you.

My router says it is getting 15.333kbps down but I am getting less than 100kbps on my laptop. Interestingly, the network on the home side of the router is very slow too.

I really and truly hope that you have the same result as me by swapping your router kdhannah. It certainly is a relief to get to the bottom of the problem.

      Re: Dismally Poor Speed

Thank you. A few other things to try first I think (It'll take ages to get the new router delivered). Hope you enjoy your up to speed broadband.

      Back to waiting for me.

      Re: Dismally Poor Speed

God I spoke too soon. It's dropped back down again and I haven't moved the PC away from the router yet. Latest speed test down to 300 again. Why? If I got such an improvement in performance when I first changed the router what has caused it to revert? I am totally perplexed.
