No, because I wouldn't know how to do this. Can one just randomly skip through channels in search of the best? Perhaps this is worth me knowing about in case I have further speed problems, although touch wood all seems OK for now.

Has been known to help, only real sure way to find out is put the old router back on and change the channel

I am so pleased to have a speedy connection that I'd be nervous of fiddling around with things now. I'm sure it's very easy to do, but I'm in 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' mode!

Just one question about speed tests - why is there such a massive variation in readings? BBMax puts me at just shy of 10MB but Elwell tends to come in much lower - about 4MB. Who offers the most reliable test? Not sure why I'm bothered - either way they're showing a huge improvement from the circa 250KB that I was registering when I came on here!

You would be best downloading a test file for a true indication of speed transfer / download.

Will try to find you some links

It might have improved the wireless side but we were getting more or less the same speed over Ethernet which wouldn't have been affected.

I agree with Susie though, if it ain't broke (now) leave well alone

      :"severe tantrum smilie"

OK, so how does this work then. You spend two days garnering fantastic support from people who know what they're talking about. You end up with blistering internet speed a fifth of which you'd be perfectly happy with. And then it all goes Pete Tong (yet again). Tonight my speed is circa 300KB. Earlier this evening my system crashed out (idling - I was off doing something else). HOW can the same connection go from offering me close on 12MB this morning to delivering 300KB now? Am I living in a parallel universe? I really do need something more reliable than this. I can live with fluctuations - that's life in the real world - but this degree of fluctuation is abnormal. I really am despairing (and it took me several seconds to load the smilies list....)

While we're thinking of something to say (sorry Susie ) just try rebooting the router once again (you might get another day's decent speed from it while we think of something else...)

I've just done that Steve - just think, a couple of days ago I would have had no idea what was meant by 'reboot the router' so at least this has been an education Am I going to have to carry out that exercise every single time I experience a speed problem? I've never had to think about it before (NTL was my last ISP and I never had a single problem with it). Off to check the speed and see if the reboot helped, but this is excruciating.....
