How do sky estimate your speed

Just wondering how do sky or any ISP for that matter estimate what speed you will get. I mean do they just work out distance from exchange to your house or do they send a test signal or something to your phone or what? And do they just assume all the internal cabling in your property is in A1 condition.

they do a line speed test im not sure how this works but i think they take the distance, noise, type of line cming into the house into consideration they asume ur internal wireing is fine

estimated speed comes from BT , goes on distance u are from exchange, but doesnt take into effect the quality of ur line and if any errors are on ur line.

So if they estimate your speed at say 4MB for example, anything you do inside your house wouldn't alter that?

Re: How do sky estimate your speed

Ok guys thanks for the info; Iím in the process of altering some of my internal wiring. Getting a new type master socket fitted and no extensions running off it, think that should make a difference.
