      Yet another slow speed thread.

Last week I changed over from AOL to SKY Mid. Whilst I didn't exactly get a fantastic speed before (circa 2900kbps), I'm now only getting 2000kbps or less. The router is plugged into the test socket in the master, whilst I await my XTE 2005.

In the meantime, can someone please have a look at these stats and let me know what they think. Also, the Chippenham exchange where I live is status red because of congestion. Exchange Status Checker

Re: Yet another slow speed thread.

      Welcome to the forum

You are connecting at 5120kbps which, with an attenuation of 54db, is very good.

Your download speed is low for this connection speed. It should be somewhere around 4250kbps and there are several possible reasons for this shortfall:
      • you are connecting wirelessly and your signal isn't good.
      • your TCP/IP settings need changing
      • the speedtest server you chose was overloaded

If the first try experimenting with wireless channel and router position. For the second read the second sticky in my signature at the bottom of this post. For the third try this server.

The exchange congestion you refer to is the BT network and this should have no effect on Sky Mid.

Re: Yet another slow speed thread.

      Hi Saturday

      Thanks for the reply.

. you are connecting wirelessly and your signal isn't good.
84% connection via wireless on my Shuttle PC. Also, I get the same speed readings when connected to the ethernet port on my laptop.
. your TCP/IP settings need changing
      Not tried these yet.
. the speedtest server you chose was overloaded
I normally use the one you kindly suggested, but used the other one as it was easier to show the report/details. I always run them after each other to confirm the readings etc.

      Regards
      Kevin

Re: Yet another slow speed thread.

What a result. I used the TCPOptimizer program and the results speak for themselves. (First figures are from using Namesco BroadbandMax ADSL Broadband Bandwidth speedtest | Test your ADSL Broadband connection speed)

      Before

      Last Result:
Download Speed: 1882 kbps (235.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 354 kbps (44.3 KB/sec transfer rate)

      and

      After

Download Speed: 4264 kbps (533 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 354 kbps (44.3 KB/sec transfer rate)

      and

However what I did notice on both the laptop and the desktop is that when you run the TCPOptimizer program for the first time on each machine and reboot, there is no difference to the speed. Redo it again and they both improved loads.

      Thanks for your help.

Fitted the XTE2005 and it's improved again.
