Extremely slow speed for the package used...

      Hi SkyUsers,

Signed up yesterday, mainly for sky is causing as much problems for me as it is to you. I also understand that this forum is full of people who know what these problems are and try their best to solve them for us, so thanks in advance.

I signed up to the Sky broadband Max package. Activation date reached etc...
Obviously the Max package as you know is up to 16mb. I checked my postcode on the Sky site to see if i was eligible for the Max package... it said I could recieve up to 5mb, which fair enough is pretty decent. But, however those speeds have never been seen since i have got Sky boradband.
Having done several speed tests, with the results beeing:
      1546kb/s Down and 456kb/s Up

Which for the package im on is rather slow...
Wondering, is their anything that i can do to help speed this connection up?

Another problem is that on occasions it completely disconnects me from the internet... then connects again around a minute or 2 later, sometimes me having to re-validate my settings and/or resetting the router to get it to connect again.
I have disabled the UPnP option within the router and just can't think of anything else to do to try and solve this problem.

Any help will be muchly appreciated.

      As i said earlier,
      thanks in advance

      Duel

      1) What does your router report as your sync rates?
      Try: http://192.168.0.1
      Username : admin
      Password : sky

Click Show Statistics, Copy & Paste that!

      2)What exchange are you on?
Usually helps so we can find out if serveral users from the exchange report problems!

3)Are all the connections to ANY BT socket MicroFiltered first?
Connect to the BT Master Sockets TEST SOCKET (if you can) and copy and paste the stats like in Number 1!

Speed has gone up a bit now, which is a bit more respectable.
I am on the Wickford exchange and yes, all BT phoneline sockets have Microfilters on them.

      Sorry about the messy table

Brill, Based on your attenuation you should be able to get anything upto ~5mb

Do you have an NTE5? So you could test MASTER SOCKET - TEST SOCKET speeds?

Ok, rather than editing that post, i thought i'd bump up this thread

Ok here are the stats for the test socket:

Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 575 489 0 510 2831 00:02:27
      LAN 10M/100M 153 0 0 43 0 00:07:39
      WLAN 11M/54M 1285 1574 0 1625 393 00:07:29

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 3520 kbps 768 kbps
Line Attenuation 48.0 db 30.0 db
Noise Margin 8.3 db 14.0 db

Faster again, but then it could just be the time in the day.

Edit: Faster again now, getting ~5mb now, thanks for the help FibreOptic

Re: Extremely slow speed for the package used...

      Someone please help me.

My broadband connects at about 2-2.5Mb atten 63.5 bit far from the exchange :-(

I'm fine with the speed but the problem is it starts fast and the noise margin falls and falls and falls. It never stays around 7? Is there anything I can do?

      Thanks,
