Talking Progress - Pipex To Sky - So Far So Good

Just to give others an idea of what timescales they can expect:-

Jul 26 Registered interest with Sky.
Aug 8 Got email saying I would receive more info in 2 weeks.
Aug 24 Got email saying I could sign up with my BAND code.
Aug 29 Asked for MAC code from Pipex amazingly received it same day!!!!
Aug 29 Phoned up sky, gave them my BAND code and also my MAC
code they said 5 days for router and up to 12 days for activation.
Aug 29 Ordered Ethernet card for my PC
      Sept 1 Router arrived.
Sept 2 Letter with activation date going to be on Sept 8 arrived.
Sept 2 Letter with username arrived.
Sep 8 Line should be activated.

Can't fault the progress so far.

To be honest I'll just be glad to be finally free of Pipex, the drunken Hoff and the incompetents that work there - over an hours wait to speak to CS, over a week to answer an email requesting simple info/changes etc. etc. Just hope I haven't swapped one set of monkeys for another - only time will tell!

Couldn't believe I've been a Pipex customer for over 4 years and I never even received one offer from them to upgrade to any of their newer services - not that I would but they are just taking advantage of their existing customers!! I just wonder if their Sales people know that their Customer Services people are destroying the business?

I was in the same boad, been with them for a while and not one offer of an upgrade to a faster survice when i did enquire it was for more money and less features!

Guess they have to pay the Hoff something!

Your signup is the siminar to mine, the only advice that i can give is speak to provisioning every couple of days to make sure that there is no problems with the line/MAC code.

Some Advice.. Its always advisable to inform your old ISP as soon as you have migrated that you have moved.

Ditto here. Having been a customer for around 4 years myself
I was naive enough to think loyalty would count for something with Pipex. I was offered a free transfer to 2Mb/unlimited @ 17.99pcm. The cost/benefit doesn't add up against the Sky "Max" I've opted for!

Do you have to have a cease and reprovide done on your line to go from pipex to sky? Tempted by the max package at 10/month but my line is pretty long (512kbit is max for ADSL) and as such i'm slightly reluctant....

You should only need a cease & reprovide if you're migrating from a LLU provider. IPStream -> Sky should have no problems.

I agree and as long as you have an email with a BAND No in it all you need to do is get a MAC Key from pipex give Sky a call give them the info they require and let the ball roll

Same timescale for me as the original poster and going from Pipex as well.
But, I have only got as far as emails from Sky saying that I can get the service and please hang on for an unspecified while longer. I've rang and sent emails to Sky but with no further progress. I know they are rolling out the service but why do they send emails saying wait for two weeks, wait a bit longer, a bit longer still and then... Nothing!

I guess they want to keep everyone who has registered there interest informed and to also let them know that they have not been forgotten.

Have you checked your exchange to see if its been LLU'd by them yet?

I would just keep checking, if not sure or what info you have been given then call back, often they are not sure. So best to check
