Sorry. Just re read your post Ian. I now realise it was the router settings you listed. I will check these and check the other stuff is set to auto.

      Thanks again, both of you.

      Good news!!

As usual, it was a simple solution to what seemed to be a complex problem.

I double clicked my wireless adaptor icon..... pressed config...... changed authentification mode to wpa-psk..... input sky network key into box below that..... pressed ok...... and wahey!!! bobs yer uncle!

      Just call me Bill Gates.

Thanks for replies off everyone. This is a top forum. 1000 times less stressful than trying to understand someone who is on another continent trying to understand what is being put in front of them on their screen.

*Sorry to put this on two threads. I wanted all the people who took the trouble to offer their help to know my problem is now solved and I had raised it on another thread which I thought was relevant to this one, hence copying reply on to here.*

      Once again..... thanks all.

Re: New user. Lap top ok, pc no connection.

Ah well the excitement didn't last long. I keep losing connection, both to the router and when router connects I lose connection to the internet. wireless connection goes on and off but mostly off. I am posting this on a lap top which maintains strong connection no problem.

When my sky adaptor arrives will this problem go away?

Is there another setting I need to alter on my present adaptor or on windows maybe? Any help will be gratefully appreciated. Thanks.
