this is with the netgear sky router and a netgear wg111t adapter.

ps: anyone know the exact model you get if you buy an adapter from sky?

Should do better than that, my brother lives in a pub, we took a laptop round to test where he could get a signal, and with router in his living room which is on the 2nd floor, we still got full strength full speed down in the beer cellar.

its one problem in a long line to be honest, but i was just curious. my girlfriends laptop wont even get constant signal sat next to the router. it connects, then starts scanning for signal again etc.

sky say its not the router, despite the fact both lights on the router flicker all the time.

I have found problems with the netgear wireless card you are using. ie. it was very unreliable. changed wirleess card and things improved alot.

the same card works downstairs but doesnt work upstairs. i have problems staying connected downstairs but think that comes from a problem with my router, not anything else.

I have the netgear wg111t adapter and use it downstairs in our lounge and get 'excellent' connection using a laptop, waiting for summer so i can try it outside in the garden! *as of yet no disconnections using it *

The model I got sent the first time was WG111v2 54mbps... after finding other were sent the WG111T, I informed them and they replaced it with the T model... so I think you have the model they would send.

Re: what range is your router?

its just frustrating. we only have one phone socket in our house under the stairs, and my pc is in the spare room so is effectively useless short of buying 15metres of ethernet cable and an ethernet card which i shouldnt have to do.

Re: what range is your router?

I'm in a bungalow and the router is in the lounge at the front of the house, then I connect from the room furthest away, through brick walls.

Does your USB pick up any networks in the area from upstairs?

If you can get a laptop or pc near the router and connect by ethernet, you could go into the router to see if the wireless access is turned off (it shouldn't be, but you never know!) or did you set it to only have access from another laptop etc?

Have you had any connectivity upstairs at all since you got it?
