      Question Anti-virus software

Can anyone recommend a good anti-virus software that won't effect Sky Broadband? I've tried loading McAffee but that causes a whole host of problems and I've ended up uninstalling it, which means my broadband seems to work fine but I have no virus protection apart from my windows firewall.

Can anyone tell me what package I need to ensure I'm covered and what they would recommend?

Not sure if its relevant but I'm using a Sony Vaio laptop on Windows XP

      Thanks v much

      Re: Anti-virus software

I moved to Zonealarm from Norton, which was slowing down my vaio laptop horribly (I gather McAfee is similarly unwieldy).

It seemed to work perfectly well with sky broadband for the brief time I had it before it went completely kaput (for "cabling" reasons - I'm still being told).

check out the zonelabs.com website - I'm pretty sure they do a free trial so you can decide if it works well for you.

Another vote for Avast with its daily and sometimes twice or thrice daily updates.

      Re: Anti-virus software

      Thanks for your advice everyone!

I decided to go for NOD32 and have downloaded the free month trial to see how it goes before I buy...just one quick question, how do I know if it's working ok and protecting my pc? It installed fine and all seems well but I was just wondering if there was a way to ensure everything is switched on, or is it just automatically doing everything???

      Re: Anti-virus software

      Nod 32 updates automatically.
You will get a message telling you when it has done so.
      Almost daily.
There should be an icon in your task bar at the
bottom of your screen. A blue and white circle.
If you click on that and then Nod 32 in the box that
opens you can also do a manual scan.
      ALSO
      Go to Control Panel.(Windows XP)
      Then Security Centre.
It should say AV is on.
