i have tried using mognut's utility to try and run at ADSL2+ mode but it does'nt do anything. You think i should phone sky up? i know they have capped me at 8meg but when i first got the bb i use to get 10-11meg in the day time and then they capped me. i used to remember getting about 9meg with an noise margin of about 8db but now at 8db i get about 7.5meg. i am begining to think this is because of them putting me on G.DMT mode

      Re: Am i on ADSL1???

No - not exactly ADSL1. The G.DMT mode that Sky use is close in characteristics to ADSL2. They use this mode to deal with problems caused by high noise lines. The net effect is often/sometimes a reduced connection speed but improved stability.

Your attenuation is low which would potentially allow a connection speed of ~16000kbps. However, despite being put on G.DMT and capped to under 8000kbps your line is still generating a moderate level of errors.

Until you resolve the noise problem on your line you probably currently have the a line performing at its limit. See the cabling and faceplate help forum (and multiple posts elsewhere) for information and advice on how to address this..

      Re: Am i on ADSL1???

      i have!

      i now get:

      ADSL Link....................Downstream...........Upstr eam
      Connection Speed...........8096 kbps............768 kbps
      Line Attenuation..............31.0 db................20.0 db
      Noise Margin....................8.3 db................14.0 db

but i still think i should be getting a better noise margin, but i dont know what else i can do on my end!

think its worth phoning sky up and asking that they uncapp me now??? what am i likely to end up with without having to go below 7.5db on noise margin???
