      Line stat errors & power

      @Saturday,

would you mind commenting on my line errors. Also, the power is showing as 1.3 which seems about 90% lower than most other stats I've seen posted. do you know what the impact of this is?

      Thanks!

Re: Line stat errors & power

As I think you might have guessed, your line errors are really horrible.

      To give a few examples:
CRC errors are 1000x the level I personally think acceptable
Your errored seconds are near enough your total seconds
LOS is bad (but remarkably good considering the above).

You possibly win the prize for the worst line errors posted so far.

However, your router is connecting at near the correct speed for your attenuation so it just goes to show that this whole connection/noise/error stuff is very complex and just how good ADSL2+ is at coping! Makes you wonder why G.DMT is used by Sky in these circumstances.

What sort of surfing/downloads do you get? I'd find it staggering if you didn't see gross effects with that level of noise. Do you need to reboot the router frequently to get "a good connection"? As an aside, I should think that Sky would cap you down to 2meg or less with those error levels.

With regard to the power levels, to be honest I've no idea what impact this would have. As far as I am aware, the router power levels are dynamic i.e. the router adjusts this as needed.

Re: Line stat errors & power

      Thanks mate,

to be honest, up until this week the connection had been great (and i;m talking great for over 6 weeks). My router has been powered up for over 300hrs since my last reboot (and that was a reboot by choice due to needing the power socket)!!

I could download binaries at 6.6Mbps at a constant rate with no problems or fluctuations.

However, the last few days have seen a downturn and my dl rate has gone up and down.

I've used mognuts util to switch to g.dmt with a sync rate of 7300 and NM of 9.5db (at 5.30pm).

so i'm going to see how this is.

Re: Line stat errors & power

Shame you didn't reboot the router then switch mode as the stats are overlapping but as far as I can tell, for the latest periods your errors have dropped to an acceptable level.

This is all very interesting as switching to G.DMT has made a dramatic difference to your error levels with very little loss of speed.

Re: Line stat errors & power

Yeah I'm nervous about rebooting in case it gets worse!!!

I am intrigued with teh whole g.dmt thing. Switching to it increases the power level, drops the attenuation, maintains the same sync rate, increases noise margin and improves stability.

Perhaps I should reboot to ADSL2+, leave for half hour and record the stats, then reboot and amend to g.dmt and record the stats.

      Good stuff reddwarfcrew

I've started a thread in the tech discussion forum to highlight your findings. Possibly only me and Mossywell are geeky enough to find this interesting but I'd appreciate you adding to the thread if you gain any new insights.
