      New user

      --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have just had Sky Max enabled and would like advise on my connection speed.
I was previously on F2S Max where I was recieving downloads of 5600kbps and uploads of 448kbps. My Ping rate has also doubled
Am I likely to see any greater speeds or a reduction in ping rate.

      Re: New user

For your attenuation of 43, the speed you are synching at it towards the max. You could probably squeeze a bit more, but as your noise margin is already at 7db, you would risk stability.

You are showing as g.dmt, so the max you would get is 8000kbps unless you persuade sky to move you to ADSL2+.

My attenuation is 46 and I sync at 7500. This can become a little unstable during weekday evenings.

PS - when I was on g.dmt, my attenuation was also 43, moving to ADSL2+ increases my attenuation to 46.

Also are you on adsl2+ now and what sort of speeds do you get?

      Re: New user

Well... 'yes' you should be on ADSL2+, but as I say you wont get anymore speed without significantly affecting stability.

As for PINGs, well I dont know much about those. ADSL2+ may help, but someone like 'saturday' would be able to comment further. You could pursuade sky to move you to ADSL2+ and then use mognuts utility to adjust the noise margin so that you maintain stability (with a sync rate of ~7000 to 7500).

So unless someone can confirm that ADSL2+ will help with pings, you might as well stay on g.dmt.

      Re: New user

I could get 8Mb on g.dmt. My line was actually better on g.dmt than it is now on ADSL2+. it was more stable and I could get a bit more speed out of it.

      Re: New user

Distance is measured by the attenuation. Any distance in km is as the crow flies which can be very different to the actual length of the line.

As I stated, on g.dmt my attenuation was 43 which suggest both yours and my line length are the same.

If you use mognuts util (see my sig) you can sync your router with a lower noise margin to increase your sync rate. NOTE THIS MAY AFFECT THE STABILITY OF YOUR CONNECTION. Have a play and see what NM you find works best for you.
