Intermittent wireless connection to Sky router

I've got a IBM R50e laptop with Intel PRO/wireless 2200BG built in. It was working fine with other wireless connection but I can't really connect to the Sky router for anything longer than 30secs.

I manually fix the IP as the laptop doesn't seem to obtain DHCP assigned IP from the router. It shows "connected" but after a while, probably 15 sec or so, it will get disconnected. While the system detects there is a disconnection, it will automatically connect the router again. So it's really repeatedly "connected-disconnected" situation.

Even during the short "connected" period, I can't get any connection to the internet. It is merely connection established between the laptop and router, and not to the broadband.

      You help is greatly appreciated.

Try unchecking the UPnP box on the router page 192.168.0.1 (admin and sky), that may help?

      No it doesn't.

Anymore suggestion? Actually I'm not sure if this is the computer or router problem......

Try changing the security method to WEP

Re: Intermittent wireless connection to Sky router

I have same wireless in my Vaio Lappy and had same problem with WEP and couldn't use WPA (I was also told by Sky that my wireless did not support WPA I now know this not to be the case) at all. I also have rubbish speed etc which may have contibuted to this.

There is an update for the intel pro/2200bg from January 07.

An Updated Driver. I wish I had a link for you but I am rubbish at all this and got my update from the Vaio update page.

If your IBM has an update page for you model it may be there.

Since installing the update I have had a pretty much stable connection via WPA no less. This could also be because sky have capped my max line at 0.608mb to keep me connected.

Re: Intermittent wireless connection to Sky router

You probably have already checked this.

Are you router and wireless speaking the same security.

Mine weren't and this caused me problems connecting via WPA

However I can't remember what the setting were back in the beginning. So may have changed these at some point with SKy when I changed the WPA to WEP.

I originally thought that the updated Driver had something to do with the WPA
security (I am so thick when it comes to computers), but found out that this was not the case as I had to reinstall my laptop due to various issues and tried to log in via WEP code I had generated and It wouldn't accept it.

Sky couldn't help as their systems where down and advised me to generate a new WEP via the router. This is when I noticed they were different.

I checked the right boxes and suddenly WPA works fine with out the update.

It also works fine with lol.

Again this could be down to the capping of my line.

Re: Intermittent wireless connection to Sky router

Solved the problem of wireless connection between laptop and router, but now there is problem to stay connected to the broadband!

The broadband connection will somehow just drop out after a while, without any warning. The router status show no IP at the ADSL. It has been happening from last night. Anyone experience same problem? I'm not sure if this is just me or has something to do with the Sky service.
