      Connection problems

I'm hoping someone can help as I haven't got a clue!!!
I've just got Sky Broadband and have tried to connect it to my Vaio laptop. It all seemed to work ok, apart from the process got stuck when it tried to upgrade to IE7, after restarting I seemed to have an unresponsive dialogue box saying it was initializing Internet Explorer 7. I eventually had to end the task and it seemed to start up fine after that. Broadband then worked great...for about 1 hour!!!

I turned my pc off and a message came up that it was installing 14 updates (I've no clue on pc's and this being my first broadband moving from dial up I've never upgraded anything!) I then tried to connect later that night and it was so slow, eventually unable to connect at all, and it hasn't since.

I've restored my system back to before I installed Sky and tried again, this time turning off automatic updates etc, the same thing happened with IE7 but this time it won't connect to the net at all...what am I doing wrong?????

If anyone can advise I'd be mega grateful, also for the sake of my partners sanity

      Re: Connection problems

Someone has posted, with written evidence, that
      Sky does not "support" IE7.
Try using IE6 or Firefox as the browser.

Mozilla - Home of the Firefox web browser and Thunderbird email client

If you delete IE7 from programs it reverts to IE6
but many users prefer Firefox. I have both browsers.

      Re: Connection problems

Could the install of upgrades have corrupted something? It's so frustrating it was working great, until I switched the machine off and it installed some updates!!

      Drummergirl.
Did you try deleting IE7 and start over again with IE6?
If that made no difference it would be interesting to know.
That way others can make alternative suggestions.

      Unhappy Re: Connection problems

Well I tried restoring back to my last good configuration, re-installing the software but not installing IE7 - no luck so then I tried again with installing IE7 and still nothing!

I'm going to have to resort to ringing Sky and spending goodness knows what ona phone call, I just presumed that end of things was working ok as it did the first time I tried it on Saturday morning...but maybe not!

Sorry to hear you have still not had any help or luck.
A pity you installed the Sky software.
      This is NOT necessary.
And McAfee can actually cause problems.

      Re: Connection problems

      Hi

I know, thanks for the free number

So if I don't need to install the software, how to I do it then? I checked my IE was 6 and my laptop picks up the wireless network, I've put the key number in to allow it access and then tried to log on..still no joy...am I missing something? God I'm cr*p at this!!!!!
