HELP! sky connected - no phone line

Just got SkyBB activated today, now I've completely lost my BT phone line.

I've tried this with a wired telephone at the NTE5 test socket, absolutely dead - no dial tone at all, however my ADSL line is fine.

Who do I call, BT or SKY?

I urgently need this phone line, otherwise my children won't get picked up!

You have to call BT as you can bet they broke it.

      0800 800 151 from you mobile

Some Advice.. Its always advisable to inform your old ISP as soon as you have migrated that you have moved.

Re: HELP! sky connected - no phone line

ok, so BT have still to fix my phone line. Could this be the reason why noise margin drops so low? My current line stats are below but last night my noise margin kept dropping below 6.

      Before (with BT IPSTREAM):

      Statistics Downstream Upstream
Line Rate 1152 Kbps 288 Kbps
Noise Margin 16.9 dB 28.0 dB
Line Attenuation 61.0 dB 31.5 dB
Output Power 16.7 dBm 11.8 dBm

      Now with SkyBB:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 2880 kbps 768 kbps
Line Attenuation 61.0 db 31.5 db
      Noise Margin 7.7 db 11.0 d

Re: HELP! sky connected - no phone line

      BT are SO useless!

5 phone calls to BT's fault line and they still don't know what's wrong with it - some poor chap was fielding all my home number calls all evening!

Apparently an engineer is going to look in the road today!

(That's after I had to persuade BT NOT to send an engineer to my home, it would only delay things, as the problem was not here as I tested a wired phone at the test socket)

Re: HELP! sky connected - no phone line

My phone started having problems on the 24th Jan which was the day Sky BB was activated.

The line keeps going off and when it's on you can't hear anyone because of the noise.

I raised a fault a few days ago and BT sent an engineer out who rang me from the exchange saying something about the Sky kit had been installed wrong. I have no idea what he was talking about but he said it's Sky's problem so now I have to wait for them to get back to me.

I'm getting fed up with them now as I have had problems since day one. Sky technical support is even worse than AOL support in India and that takes some beating!

Re: HELP! sky connected - no phone line

thats the cons of shared pairs if it goes wrong tehres two parties fighting each other to release the blame

however BT are not as useless as you think, resedential phones are covered by a maintenance level just below standard care which means theres no real fix SLA and it only gets worked on during office hours unless theres special circumstances such as pending child birth, disability etc...
