      Have sky capped my speed?

I have been connected to sky broadband for about 3 weeks now, im aware of the snr ratio dropping in the evening but even when im connected at the faster speed im only getting the download speed of about a 2 meg connection, ive tested this on many speed test sites and most say th same thing, the stats page shows between 4500 kbps and 5500 kbps but i was wondering wether sky have capped my speed down to 2 meg, also the LED on my router for port 3 on the ethernet seems to have stopped working, should i ring sky up about this?

      You are confusing two speeds.

Your connection speed is the speed your router syncs with the exchange. Your download speed is a measure of how much data can be transmitted at that connection speed.

On a well set up system you can expect your download speed to be ~85% of the connection speed due to transmission overheads.

If its not then assuming you are testing wired not wireless, the most obvious thing to check is your TCP/IP settings - see second sticky in my signature at the bottom of this post.

thanks for that tcp optimizer, its doubled my download speed, its gone from around 250kb/s which like i said is around 2 meg speeds to 500+ kb/s speeds, i have recently installed windows xp 64 bit so the settings were obviously wrong for my internet connection,
