Question new user, just a little guidance needed please

      hi

firstly, great site! (even if a fair bit of info goes 'whoosh' over my head at the moment ) & it really helped make up my mind to switch over from BT.

i ordered sky mid online 23.01.07 & it went live yesterday, even though i've not had my official letter from sky yet (their 1st letter stated a possible connection date of 02.02.07).

on BT the max speed i got was 512kbps & i was expecting a max of 1mb from sky, so an increase in speed AND save some money, woohoo!

i know things can be a little all over the place with Sky for the 1st few days but i just want to check a few things with the experts

i'm connected up on my pc via the ethernet cable & my Wii is all ok on the wi-fi connection.

i've changed my router settings -
ssid (not broadcast) & password/key changed,
      WPA security &
turned access control on & added my pc & wii MAC's as trusted.

i'm (straight line) distance 3.69km from the exchange & these are my stats:

      System Up Time 24:37:13
Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 5835 7776 0 268 1600 01:22:44
      LAN 10M/100M 102615 76682 0 943 202 24:37:11
      WLAN 11M/54M/108M 1517 0 0 526 0 00:02:01

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 1536 kbps 416 kbps
Line Attenuation 63.5 db 31.5 db
Noise Margin 7.1 db 14.0 db

i've read Soooo much info on here i'm a little ,

is it best to switch the power on the router off when not needed?
do i have to 'reset' it every day for the 1st 10 days to get the best out of it?
(are power off & reset the same thing?),
the internet & no.1 lights on the router flash quite a bit, is this normal?
have i missed anything else that needs to be done?

Your call - I always leave mine on 24 hours a day

(are power off & reset the same thing?),
Only if signed up to Connect - all other packages there is no training period

Yes - this shows data transfer between the Internet and your PC and nothing at all to worry about
