      Re: Adsl1???

Don't worry I have Sky plus, 2 other sky boxes, modem and phone also and a home run extension, and as long as the phone and sky are filtered and the wiring is ok, also check your cables RSJ11 and patch (ethernet or lan) if you are using one, it all helps. My speeds increased and noise levels dropped after reding internal wiring and replacing cables and adding filtered faceplate and also replacing 2 duff filters!

You could try unplugging all the other stuff and then check again to see if there is any difference.

      Unhappy Re: Adsl1???

Ok an update : So i have not had a tier 3 callback as of yet but i did have a callback form a guy at sky who i dont know what tier he was, but basically he said that there is no room on the exchange to put me onto the upto 16mbs and my line cannot handle 16mbs anyway, even though i told him i have now sorted my line noise out from a dodgy adsl filter he still said it would not improve my speeds or would be a very small increase, I basically said to him "i question your judgment as you have not even tried my line on adsl2+ as there is no room ?" and he answered tier 3 probally have and thats why i am capped but if any space comes up in the future they can try to put me onto the 16mbs service but he also went on to say that a tier 3 will call me back within 3 days when they test the line to see how fast i can go without errors .

I'm not into reading much about t&c's but i signed upto the MAX package because sky told me i would get the service at upto 16mbs, now i understand if my line cannot handle it and all that but i believe i can achive alot more than 8mbs, he said that there was never any space at the exchange for the adsl2+ service so it looks like i was mis sold a package that i could never get.

To round things up i now have a SOLID connection with no loss of sync at 15.5 snr and 27 attenuation with no crc errors what so ever on the line after 3 days connected.

it all seems like a bit of a scam to me. Now if i was sold a upto 8mbs connection for 10 a month i would still be happy but they seem to have never had any upto 16mbs on my exchange in the first place.

Anyway still waiting i'll keep people updated just incase they are told the same and i maybe able to save them some time and money calling tech support.

      Replies welcome

      Ian

      Red face Re: Adsl1???

Update : Strange things going on.

I had a tier 3 callback who called me to confirm i can have adsl2+ which he was suprised about as of my 1.2km seems alot longer but anyway he set me on adsl2+ and i sync'ed at 9096 which i thought hmmm thats not bad. After i contemplated staying as i was on the 8096 g.dmt sync i decided to stay on the adsl2+ profile and the chap said your line looks good at this speed. I had a snr of 9.6 and attenution of 27 with a no errors. I put the phone down and rebooted my router and got this >

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 7645 kbps 764 kbps
Line Attenuation 30.5 db 16.5 db
Noise Margin 15.5 db 13.0 db

The above is using adsl2+ according to mognuts and as you can see my attenuation has jumped up 3.5 but my noise is now 15.5. I thought to myself what a waste of time as i cannot sync any higher than 7645 using adsl2+. I was just about to e-mail them to put me back when i decided to try the g.dmt mode and it sync'ed up at the this >

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 9696 kbps 768 kbps
Line Attenuation 27.0 db 17.5 db
Noise Margin 9.4 db 13.0 db

Now forgive me for being naive but i thought g.dmt could only goto 8800kbs max sync speed and also why does the adsl2+ mode give me 2mbs sync less.

I think that they have not got adsl2+ at my exchange and can somehow force adsl2+ mode or it is very cramped in there so they have capped me further using adsl2+...

I think i am going to leave it at g.dmt as the extra 1.6mbs sync is cool and the connection is still rock solid.

ps . there is no adsl2+ training period is there ? as i would have thought with an snr of 15 i would get alot faster adsl2+ speeds.

Any technical people or people who have the same skymax sync as me feel free to comment.

      Regards

      Ian
