      A Few Questions.....

Since it was announced i've been eyeing the Sea , Speak ,Surf package but the original letter said my area wasn't due for LLU for a very long time . Over the week-end i had another look at the sky site , put my number in the check availability and it now says it should be in my Exchange (Wideopen) by Summer 2007 . I'm currently donating 26 a month to BT for their total package on option 3 , my 12 months is up at the start of May , I've never had an ounce of bother with BT in the 4 years i've been with them but when i can get my Sky(the full six mix) , my broadband and my phonecalls for the same price as i currently give to BT , now is the time to start thinking of a move !
      A few questions .....
      1) I currently get ...... (i live what i consider to be a fair distance from the Exchange)
      DownStream UpStream
7,520 Kbps 448 Kbps According to the Hub............
3,847 Kbps 376 Kbps According to a Speed checker

Will i still get this on Connect if i change before LLU ?
Will i still get this eventually on LLU ?
I've read a few stories about not getting the same speeds....

      2) I have a website with associated e-mails with only the facilities to receive , as they don't operate an "open relay" mail system , currently i send e-mails for them addresses through BT by using my BT SMTP Mail Server settings in Thunderbird , will i be able to do the same with the Sky mail server ?

      3) I noticed the Netgear Router has a phone socket on the back , is this used or going to be used in the future for an equivelant of BT talk ?

I 've probably asked questions that have been answered loads of times before , i'm sorry if i have , but it's just a few of the niggles in the back of my head .
I've sent an e-mail off to sky asking if they can confirm my exchange details so just waiting to hear from them . I know Mays a long time off but i would like to know well in advance what i'm letting myself in for .

      Cheers
      Gordon

Connect is the name that sky give to the BT product that Sky lease off BT so 'yes' you'll get the same. If you post your router stats (attenuation) we can comment on what LLU could possibly give you.

Not sure I understand the question.... but sky have an smtp server so I would say 'yes'

Phone socket? Nope it has the socket for the router to plug into the BT socket to get the ADSL signal and then 4 LAN sockets.

My Mistake about the Socket !
      Thanks for the reply .
      The figures are :-

      Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 23.0 / 43.0

      SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 20.0 / 5.5

      Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 11.5 / 19.5 .

      Cheers Again

      Re: A Few Questions.....

With that attenuation, you probably wont get much over 8Mb on LLU (you may be able to get up to around 10Mb).

Some Advice.. Its always advisable to inform your old ISP as soon as you have migrated that you have moved.
