      Not a problem really, but!!!!!

      I have received a letter today. I don't think it's an issue, as everything seems to be going smoothly (order in place with BT etc...) but the letter says;

Dear Mr Yorkiepudd (no, it says my real name, honest )

      Account number 6200******90

I'm delighted to confirm the equipment blah, blah... (I am abrieviating all this obviously) broadband MAX blah blah, Broadband Suscription Contract which will be emailed, when your line is activated, to your new sky.com email address, which is your usename shown below followed by @sky.com

All well and good, except there is NO username or password or anything else shown on the letter, apart from the a/c number at the top. No details of how to access this wonderful new @sky.com email box, no nothing.

Is this normal, do further details follow? I have had a previous letter saying they had received the order, and the Ts&Cs to the email addy I used at signup.

As I said, not necessarily a problem, but confusing none the less...

Re: Not a problem really, but!!!!!

I had exactly the same letter today as well.
The username was show on my letter directly below the line that says
"To login you need to use the username below"
It was all in Upper Case.

      There was no password.

I have already registered at sky.com with my viewing card number etc. using this login name. Could that be why the username is present in my letter?

I did the same - I had been registered at Sky for ages but there is no such line on my letter, just goes on about how long it normally takes and the cancellation policy on the reverse.

      Well that is weird then!
I can't explain it, but then I am new to Sky as well so maybe someone else with a bit more experience could suggest why our letters are different?

Re: Not a problem really, but!!!!!

Did they not ask you what name you wanted as an email?

When I signed up I chose the name befire @sky.com and that was what my username was.

I did however get a letter that said username: MYNAME@sky.com

      And password: xxxxxxxxxx

Re: Not a problem really, but!!!!!

I do remember that screen on signup, but I seem to remember being able to 'skip' that if you wanted and I used my personal email addy (I have had the Ts' & Cs' arrive in the addy I used) so perhaps it's a bit of a quirk in the system that it doesn't recognise I haven't got one ending in @sky.com until it comes to print a username that doesn't exist.....

I chose this as I use a domain name so was not interested in a sky.com addy.

As I said, don't think it's a problem, just confused by how the letter was worded.

Any chance of a glass of that wine.....

Re: Not a problem really, but!!!!!

yea this user name business has really caused some problems. I had registered with sky.com yonks ago, long before sky broadband was thought of. When i tried to register bml4564 as my username on sky broadband i was told it had to be changed as someone had already got that name!! It turned out is was me who had the name as a sky.com user. It seems that sky have merged the two systems in some way.

So now, when i log in with the user name that sky gave me on sky braodband, it works on both sky.broadband AND sky.com and in both cases it shows my original bml4564 as an additional user. And just to confuse the issue a little more, the bml4564 still works on sky.com but not sky broadband.

So in brief - if you have not received a user name or password for sky broadband, try using the ones you have from sky.com - it should work.

      Good luck.
