Hurrah the modem has arrived but....`

Fired up the Sky DG832GT and I get the following

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 6176 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 47.0 db 30.0 db
Noise Margin 5.8 db 19.0 db

Currently when I use my Draytek I get

ADSL Status Mode State Up Speed Down Speed SNR Margin Loop Att.
      G.DMT SHOWTIME 448000 5760000 7.5 42.0

I also have a DG834G and get this

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 6658 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 45.0 db 30.0 db
Noise Margin 6.0 db 19.0 db

Now I understand Sky isnt activated yet but it makes no different as all thats stopping me browsing with this modem is the authentication as its built in and currently wrong for Nildram

So why is my attn levels so high between each device I mean 47dB for a line thats 3km is that right?

Yep thats about right for the line distance the further away you are the higher the number.

Try moving off the mountain you might get better results

Some Advice.. Its always advisable to inform your old ISP as soon as you have migrated that you have moved.

Could be a couple of reasons for the difference:
      • each router manufacturer measures things differently
      • the routers are connecting with different ADSL modes

In the context of ADSL, attenuation is a measure of line length. If your attenuation is 45/47db then your line length is approximately 3.25km. This may be greater than the straight line distance to your exchange as wires rarely get laid in straight lines to peoples houses.

My exact line length is 3292m or 3.29km Im impressed with your 3.25km

However my Draytel dB move from 42.5 to 41.5 indicating a lesser distance Im sure thats just the routers guts getting the best out fo the line yeah?
