      Advice re speed and package

I have been with Sky BB about a month now. After help from this forum I replaced faceplate and wiring to improve speed. Contacted Tier 3 eventually and got cap raised to 2 meg.
Please find attached jpg of current stats
Can anyone suggest any way to improve speed please? I am 3.72 km from exchange.
I tend to reboot early in day to get 2 meg then reboot again later in day to maintain connection at reduced speed
If no way to improve speeds is it possible to ask to be downgraded from Max package to lower, cheaper or free package? Or am I tied in to Max!! for 12 months, please?
So far the tier 3 people have been helpful but difficult to reach. So is there any point in trying again if BT line is at full stretch? Is it worth trying to contact BT and asking them to try and improve my line connection?

Thanks for a great, friendly, helpful forum.

Re: Advice re speed and package

With your attenuation you have a maximum connection speed of ~3000kbps.

You say you've improved your wiring but are you connecting through an extension? The only way you'll get near 3000kbps is if you can get a pretty noise free line. BT will only get involved (for free at least) if the noise is sufficient to impact your voice calls and then only if it is being generated their side of your connection - i.e. not if its your internal wiring/extensions.

Looking at your stats, your low upstream connection speed suggests you're still capped by Sky.

Sky should move you to another package as your line really isn't suitable for Max.

Re: Advice re speed and package

Thanks for that Saturday. I now know that the best I can expect is 2-4 meg.
My extension is with Cat 5e cable and a filtered plate as per same supplier of Main Faceplate. My stats are same from either plug. I suspect I am not going to get an improvement which leaves me with the problem of getting Sky to put me on lower tarrif.
Having made an initial query I was told I am contracted to Max package for 12 months, so basically - implicit not explicit - tough.
I shall try again and appeal to some sense of fair play!!!
I guess I could always wait 12 months and then cancel everything and go back to NTL
I think the only way to have optimum speeds with ADSL is to move house next to exchange, not a cost effective option.
      Thanks again for your help.

Re: Advice re speed and package

      You're welcome

      A couple of minor points:
      • Your maximum possible connection speed is a shade over 3meg (not 4 as you stated)
      • Though you are getting the same speed from both sockets, I suspect a test using your test socket would reveal a little more speed (if so then its your internal phone wiring that's keeping you below 3meg)

I'd definitely go back to Sky and get regraded. You bought Max in good faith and (presumably) weren't told what your maximum speed would be. If you don't get any joy from calling send a complaint email.
