      loss of speed

      Hi

      Ive been wth sky for about a month, and happy appart fron now, when i was with them i was getting good speeds of around 4.7MB now i only sync in at 608KBS. ive tried everything like rebooting the router. heres my stats:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
      Connection Speed 608 kbps 416 kbps
      Line Attenuation 55.0 db 31.5 db
      Noise Margin 29.0 db 13.0 db

      any suggestions

      What are your stats using the test socket (which you'll find behind the faceplate of your master socket, assuming you have an NTE5)?

      Line attenuation looks a little high. When did you start having the problem? I'm thinking maybe some kind of storm damage.

      started at the start of this week, i can test on master socket but that means taking my whole PC downstairs, dont really want to do that any other suggestions?

      line att was the same as when it was syncing 4.7MB, only difference is my noise margin it use to be around 9/10

      Nope - not if you want to find/eliminate the cause.

      BTW you need to test with your test socket not master socket.

      i think i found the problem, im now getting stats better then ever before. When i was installing sky i forgot to put a filter on the sky box connection, so today i noticed that and put a filter now im getting:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
      Connection Speed 5408 kbps 416 kbps
      Line Attenuation 54.0 db 31.5 db
      Noise Margin 7.3 db 14.0 db

      That's good news

      5408kbps is an exceptionally good connection speed for an attenuation of 54db. Keep an eye on it - I suspect it might be struggling with a fair few errors.
