Hi Looking To Move To Sky, But Very Nervous!

Hi, im on Pipex, which has been a rock Solid Service for the last 3 years. Im very tempted to swap to sky as I have thier tv packagage, and my exchange is now LLU enabled. The Broadband Resource

Im a VERY nervous about the swap, im keen to get the greater upload speeds but having read so many nightmare stories from unhappy customers I just dont know whether being 13 a month better off will be worth the hassle.

Have things settled down yet with the service? Anyone in my area on Sky who can put my mind at rest? Any advice on making sure the swap gows smoothly if i take the plunge?

i moved from pipex, and well glad i did, finding sky much better value for money.
worth noting the gossip that pipex is up for sale, or about to be, and sky among others are 'apparently' in the running to buy em up...

however plans for world domination have been put on hold untill murdoch gets a white cat

Re: Hi Looking To Move To Sky, But Very Nervous!

I was nervous previously having a solid BT connection, but then BT started playing silly beggars and could only give me 1MB fixed.
So I thought why not save 17/month and gone for SkyBB Max. Even if I only get 1MB or a little more (on ADSL2+), it'll be a damn sight cheaper.

There is a thread, up one level from here, called Sky Happiness which has stories of good experiences with SkyBB. Remember, many of those who sign up and do not have a problem will not be inclined to seek help or advice and voice their experiences on boards like this.

I signed up last night anyhow! Good luck what ever you decide.

I was in the same situation with BT, their service was rock solid but expensive and that is why as a Sky TV subscriber, I decided to move over to Sky. I had a few minor problems migrated with delayed routers and the like but I am more than happy that I did so and more than happy with their service.

Gernster, do be nervous please. LLU and tie pair shifts are a nightmare scenario and the technical guys dont even know what it is or who is supposed to fix/shift replace them.

      You've been warned!

Re: Hi Looking To Move To Sky, But Very Nervous!

      Hi Sam

Although we all know about your scenario, there are relatively few people with exactly the same problem. Even the recent poll shows that, and so should not be thrown at everyone that asks. Your story is well documented and if people are researching then they will come across it.

Not everyone will have a problem but some will, that could be the same for any ISP not just Sky. This is unfortunately the nature of the internet, people will post 10 times more when unhappy to tell people then to tell people how good an experience was.

The odds of been connected without problems are at best 50/50 the same as every other ISP and is the best advice anyone could give. It will either be ok or it will go wrong. The number of posts in the Sky unhappiness forum have decreased / slowed down which to me shows things are not going as badly wrong as when Sky first started their operation to sell broadband.

As for your problem did you see my post the other day?

Re: Hi Looking To Move To Sky, But Very Nervous!

My reading is that people moving between LLUs encounter more problems than otherwise. Bcos this involve shifting or changing tie pairs, more delays and "technical" issues at exchange occur.

Hence my comment abt need to be wary !

Hopefully when yours is sorted you will be impressed. I ain't trying to excuse the sloppy mess that you have had to endure, don't get me wrong.

No one should have to go through what you have done so and for that you have my respect for staying put, but my point was that it does not go wrong for everyone.

Now.... did you see my post from the other day?

Which one ? Pl remind or PM me. Thanks and didnt mean to demean you abt sky adverts on this forum. Sorry ! Just the frustration getting to me, esp when I asked to cancel, was told that THAT might also be at least a month. Hence deciding to stay put and following the threads of people expressing their anxiety.!

Reminds of the limmerick, but perhaps not tasty on this forum.
