      Max connection

I migrated into Sky Broadband on 19/1, and I'm on the Max package. My stats are as follows:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4416 kbps 768 kbps
Line Attenuation 45.0 db 28.5 db
Noise Margin 7.2 db 13.0 db

I live around 1.07 kilometres from my exchange (as the crow flies). Should I be happy with this speed? I was hoping for a bit more. I have noticed that I'm on an ADSL1 connection.

Have you checked your local wiring Im pretty sure that Downs dB is more like 3-4km though you might have routing in a wide arc causing the distance

      Re: Max connection

Try the connection in the test socket behind the master socket. This will normally tell you the best stats / speed etc

      @deceptive

I assume you mean you are on G.DMT?

As you probably know (Sky) G.DMT limits your connection speed to ~8000kbps. However, with an attenuation of 45db that's the maximum connection speed you would get with any current ADSL technology. So that's not your worry.

What is a problem is that you are only connecting at 4416kbps. This is almost certainly due to the effects of line noise. You need to run a test from your test socket which you will find behind the faceplate of your master socket (assuming you have an NTE5).

Please post before and after stats. The two tests need to be done within a few minutes of each other to avoid noise margin variations.

      Re: Max connection

Just thought I'd post an update....

Tried the test socket, and as a result purchased an XTE-2005 faceplate from adslnation (quick delivery too). I'm now getting:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 7424 kbps 768 kbps
Line Attenuation 45.0 db 28.5 db
Noise Margin 7.2 db 14.0 db

A considerable leap. I'm more than happy with it too. I guess as posted earlier due my line attenuation this is the best I could possibly get at the moment.
