      Re: New Connection Advice

I doubt you've been capped as that would usually show in your stats e.g. a connection speed of 8096kbps.

Have you optimized your TCP/IP settings? If not follow the link at the bottom of this post. Also, use a good speedtest server such as this one.

      Re: New Connection Advice

I have tried using the suggested speedtest and the optimiser but still cant get past 8meg yet connection speed is still nearly 16meg so big difference between connection and download speed, upload is fine.

      Very odd

You're not testing whilst connected wireless are you?

You have an excellent connection with a very healthy noise margin. Sorry, but if those speeds are wired I think you'll have to tackle this with Sky. Tier 1 will tell you "that's all your line can do". Persevere and get through to Tier 3 and hopefully have a sensible discussion.

No im connected with the supplied cable but still cant get above 8meg here are my stats today
      System Up Time 45:37:02
Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 795674 1461910 0 648 21500 27:26:47
      LAN 10M/100M 1486116 812500 0 13234 500 45:37:00
      WLAN 11M/54M 281852 155741 0 2501 79 45:36:50

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 15323 kbps 764 kbps
Line Attenuation 10.0 db 6.3 db
Noise Margin 16.6 db 13.5 db

Can anybody suggest the best number to call Sky technical support on ? The only thing i can think of is that they have capped just the download or that im just on adsl 1, think may have to bit the bullet and give them a call.

      No, you can't be on ADSL1 - you're connecting at 15323kbps.

      Call Sky free on 0800 051 2595.

      Re: New Connection Advice

Ok well I have spoken to Sky a few times today they have ran some tests and confirmed that this problem is at their end it appears well i have been told the problem is the backhaul from my exchange which is shared with BT and cant cope very well so limiting my download to same as all adsl customers, they have said they have ordered a new dedicated fibre for Easynet/Sky which is due to go active on 29th Jan I asked about users said only at min 60 clients connected plus 5 large business. My exchange was only unbundled on 22nd Dec apparantly the fibre link should have been working by then but got delayed with burst water main work and then christmas . Which i can believe as the traffic has been terrible round here after the water mains went wrong but had walk round block past and round exchange but cant see the road up at all to lay the fibre or would they not need to dig the road?
Im just hoping that this is fact and not just to get me off their backs complaining. Does this sound possible or is it just an excuse ?
