now a sky bb user but....

well i was connected to sky max 48 hours ago, on the date they said they would in the letter.

Have one problem though, im only connecting to the exchange at 8mps, when this should be 16mps.

The download speeds im am getting on the 8mps are out standing, speed checks confirm a download rate of around 6999 to 7500k, my p2p clients can now download at the fastest i have seen so far 550kbs (tiscali could only manage 20kbs) i really cant fault the service, even with this 16mps niggling me. I know this has happened before - i hope its easy to get them to sync me at 16mps, i have called them yesterday and today, but apparntly bt have not informed sky that they have connected me so im not showing up on there systems at the moment, they have promised this will be sorted when they have me on there computer systems.

      ok router stats:

      System Up Time 00:11:34

      LAN 10M/100M 3450 3428 0 2790 1747 00:11:32

Connection Speed 8096 kbps 768 kbps
Line Attenuation 19.0 db 13.5 db
Noise Margin 14.2 db 14.0 db

      speed check results:

      Your current bandwidth reading is:

      6.83 Mbps

which means you can download at 873.96 KB/sec. from our servers.

      28.8 kbps dial-up

      150 kbps DSL
      256 kbps DSL
      512 kbps DSL
      6991.7 kbps YOU

so, what do you think my chances are of getting a sync at 16mbs? and to make sure they put me on adsl2?

Well with that attenuation you should be able to get pretty much the max.

      Looks like you are capped.

Try posting your detailed line stats using mognuts utility DG834GT

If you were on ADSL2+, it would show ADSL2+ not G.DMT.

You need to get Sky to move you to ADSL2+ profile. Don't take any fobbed off reasons from them.

Re: now a sky bb user but....

i will try to not let them fob me off, trouble is getting to speak to someone who knows the score, because the last 2 cutomer service people i spoke too do not have a clue when you start to get technical.

i will keep you all updated, as this forum has now become my new "home" since leaving the forums at tiscali behind.

      use the email route:

      BroadbandTechnicalSupport@BSkyB.com

You can then compose a very clear message. In that message ask that the entire contents are added to the ticket that they create or ask them to state in the ticket that they must read your email.

Re: now a sky bb user but....

well got throught to tier 1 after about 15 mins, i then had to basicaly argue my case with this tech 1 guy, who had the same view that its only up to 16mb and allthis went on for ages, he then sais to hold the line while he put me on hold, he came back and said i was absoultly right and that he was sorry (he checked a second system so he says) he then begun to type up a message and sent it to tier 3 for action.

he told me that he could see i was not on adsl2 (even though i had told him that 20 mins ago) but i would be put on it.

will keep you posted, dont no how long this will take to switch over.

Re: now a sky bb user but....

      You've been capped.

Your stats show that you are on (Sky) G.DMT which will limit your connection speed to ~8000kbps.

Were you on ADSL2+, on a relatively noise free line with your attenuation you could expect a connection speed of up to 11250kbps.

You should phone Sky and ask what's going on (expect a nonsense reply until you get through to Tier 3).

As background, you have a small number of errors appearing in your stats. Not too many and not I'd have thought enough to warrant you being capped. Improvements to your connection filtering may reduce these.

The fact that you are not connecting with a higher noise margin than you have suggests you have a line noise problem (not unusual) and a test with your test socket (you'll find it behind the faceplate of your NTE5 - assuming you have one) will show how much of this is down to your internal wiring.
