      Frequent disconnection...PLEASE HELP!

      Hello. I recently got Sky Broadband mid. The problem is that it keeps disconnecting every 10mins or so. I found customer support no help, they just ended up sending me a new router, but nothing changed. I've had a little look around the forums and tried UpNP trick, but it didn't work. Also my noise margin is a reasonablly healthy 14db or thereabouts. Could somebody please offer me some help...I'm just about ready to throw my broad band box at the wall.

      i had the same problems tonight, but gone back to stable now, and the exchange is where your BT line is routed and connected to

      Are you connecting wirelessly or by cable?

      One thing I've recently noticed is my router's signal strength keeps dropping. The Sky Net Gear router can produce speeds of up to 54mpbs. When I hover my pointer over the wireless icon in the bottom right hand corner of the toolbar (next to the volume control etc), I've seen that the speed often drops to just 1mbps. What will be causing this?

      What wireless adapter are you using. If the USB, make sure you use the extension cable cos if you plug the USB adapter into a usb port on the back of the PC you'll get too much interference which will cause the signal to be so weak that it keeps disconecting (as both myself and a mate found out even when he had used the extension cable and had the USB adapter sitting on top of the PC box).

      I'm using the wireless adapter that came with my laptop, along with the router sky provided. The connection also seems to fail when I use the provided ethernet cable however, so it's not just a wireless problem. Another thread was asking about IE7 and the compatability with Sky, could that be a problem? The first time I actually started to notice the disconnection was following the installation of Windows Live Messanger, it always signs me in again automatically after I've disconnected.
