      Help!!!

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4064 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 44.0 db 25.0 db
Noise Margin 8.8 db 21.0 db

400KB/sec downloads should be possible, however after running the following over a period of 4 hours this is the result I get consistently.

      http://www.dslzoneuk.net/speedtest/s....php?id=391067

Please note I am using mognuts utility to lower the dB noise from 15.1 to 8.8 as I get 1000kbps higher downstream showing on the router info.

      Chris.

Based that you are on Connect, The speeds are quite jumpy for the first few weeks?
I assume you have had Connect for over a month?

Have you used TCP Optimiser at all?

      Re: Help Please

Have you not wondered why your noise margin was 15.1db? Or what the effect of pushing it down to 8.8db would do?

      You're on Connect.

Connect uses a rate adaption methodology controlled by the exchange equipment. Over the initial 10 day connection period the exchange continually measures your line to establish the maximum stable rate for your line.

It clearly determined that your line ran best at a relatively high noise margin (almost certainly because the line is noisy).

You can not manipulate a Connect connection via the router without risking detrimental effects to your connection.

My suggestion is to leave Mognut's (excellent) utility well alone and concentrate on solving your likely noise problem. Hopefully your connection performance will recover on its own but that is not at all certain.
