Unhappy Exchange unbundled but only offered connect

      Hello,

I've been hunting around on this forum to find other people with the same problem as me, but have failed so far.

When I check availability on the Sky site it says I can have the Max package, but when I try to order it (on the site or on the phone) I'm told I can only have Connect.

My exchange is Stockport (MRSTO) which seems to have been one of the first Easynet unbundled exchanges. I have emailed sky a number of times asking why I can't have the Max package but just get the standard "we don't know how long it will take" response.

I'm paying 25 quid a month at the moment for 512kb (Zen) so really want to change ISP but as I don't know why I can't get Sky I don't know whether it's worth waiting.

Does anybody have any idea what the problem could be? No capacity in the exchange maybe?

      Thanks,

      BB

Could well be no capacity in the exchange.

BrianC could be right but Sky could also be talking rubbish! My exchange was unbundled in October and I was connected in November, My Aunt who lives 3 miles from me and is on the same exchange tried to order Sky last week and was told it is not available in this area!! After 3 phone calls and a bit of arguing on the phone saying "My Nefew lives down the road and he has got it!! and I know Easynet is enabled because I have checked!!!!!" on the third call they said " Oh yes so it is you are right!! Of course you can order it!!!"

Re: Exchange unbundled but only offered connect

Thanks for the responses. I'd already checked on the Broadband Resource but it says capacity information is unavailable.

I guess it has to be this, or sky talking rubbish. I suppose I'll have to keep on pestering them until I get a proper answer.

Is anyone out there with sky on the stockport (MRSTO) exchange? I've seen messages from people on it through F2S using easynet but none from sky BB.

      Cheers,

      BB

Re: Exchange unbundled but only offered connect

I'm on a nearby exchange in Cheadle Hulme - when I ordered Sky BB on 29.12.2006, I was under the impression they hadn't rolled out the network to the exchange yet but that they were doing so soon and this was why I had to go on Connect. I was told I would be moved straight over once I could be.

Since ordering, I found this site and followed links to find out the exchange was enabled on 14.12.2006. After calling to ask if I can therefore move package, I was put through to a chap who explained that the reason I had been put on Connect was that there was no spare capacity for their other packages at the exchange and that I would basically have to wait probably six months for capacity to change.

They could certainly have been more clear in their conversation - they should explain the reason that solely Connect is available because their capacity is used up rather than mention rolling out networks and not yet reaching areas etc. I thought I was going to be one of the first in the queue for Max!

But for me personally, I had a second line and was paying 15 a month for Orange, so it works out cheaper even on Connect. And it's not dialup!

Re: Exchange unbundled but only offered connect

Actually brianc is correct if what you say about it being one of the first exchanges to be unbundled by Easynet then there could well be no capacity in the exchange, I just wish when sales tell you that you can only receive Connect why that is but I am guessing they don't have the ability to see that info.

Some Advice.. Its always advisable to inform your old ISP as soon as you have migrated that you have moved.

Re: Exchange unbundled but only offered connect

      Hello all,
just thought i'd add my experiences in the hope of maybe sugaring the bitter pill of insufficient exchange capacity. I'm in the exact position as the OP, and after calling Sky's freephone number and a brief rant, I've just received a 51 credit to my Sky account. I know we're still lumbered with Connect, but you should take everything you can!

Also, I don't know whether any real experts can shed some light on the info this site... http://www.prodigynet.co.uk/menu.php.../adsllinecheck

...produces. It seems to indicate space in the exchange, altho I do feel I'm reading into it with insufficient knowledge!

      Hope this helps

      Thanks

      Paul

Re: Exchange unbundled but only offered connect

There has to be a simple explanation of all the issues that we are all expressing about connect and max. I have posted in other threads about trying to get from connect to max on MRWAL exchange, but it was getting tied up in knots but happy to get to 5connect.

Changing your profile to reflect your new status will generate more encouragement to switch and perhaps from the opposite direction encourage a greater callcentre understanding that you can be migrated to connect@5.

Does the inference on SamKnows etc really mean that there is sky/easynet equipment in the exchange, in my case MRWAL, so that the providers are able to use this to jump their traffic onto their trunk wires, but not necessarily that the customers end of the equipment is connected???

Just as a heads up, it is normally a month once an exchange is enabled before you will get connected to the LLU side of things.
