Can someone explain procedure for SkyBB ?

      Hi
I'm great as a theoretical physicist but not too good on computing. I've been offered free Sky broadband but find it all confusing and would some kind soul explain the pros and cons of this in particular :the proceedure for switching from Orange BB, whether new email addresses are required, if I have to be an existing Sky telephone user (i'm not) and if I have to use their router/cost.
      Thanks

Re: Can someone explain procedure for SkyBB ?

I swtched from Orange broadband, which resulted in me losing my broadband connection for 3 months whilst problems were sorted out in the exchange.
      Anyway to answer your questions.
You need to have a BT telephone line.
You will need to obtain a MAC code from Orange.
You will have to pay a 40 activation fee to Sky for the free service.
You do have to use Sky's router as its got custom firmware in it.

Or stay with Orange:Ring them up ask for cancellations and see what they offer you to stay, before I switched I managed to get 2 months free.

Re: Can someone explain procedure for SkyBB ?

      Welcome to the site Ruby

All the info supplied by the members above is correct but to sum it up

      You need to be a
      Sky TV Customer
You need a BT phone line
You will require a MAC Code from Orange to migrate form the to SkyBB
You will be required to use the supplied router from SkyBB its plug-in and play
You will receive a new Sky email address username@sky.com
You will have an activation fee of 40 and a usage limit of 2Gig a month

And the migration times can and will vary form ISP to SkyBB but can be monitored via the BT Checker to see what thats says ?
Order tracking: Landline orders You will need to register if you don't already have an account.

Hope all this helps and good luck with what every you decided.
      Ray

Some Advice.. Its always advisable to inform your old ISP as soon as you have migrated that you have moved.
