      Question another newbie needing guidance....(please!)

      Hi all, very informative and helpful site u got here!

      anyways, connected to sky broadband Max today, all installed and connected no problem, but, I have done at least 10 on-line speed tests and the fastest download speed recorded was 349kbps, upload about 600kbps.
      Phoned Sky tech help twice. 1st call the lady just didn't understand what I was saying, tested my line twice and just kept saying my line is capable of 4.1mb d/l speed, rude I know but I ended up hanging up on her, called back and spoke with another lady who did understand what I was saying, but only advise she could give was to allow 3 days for the line to settle down. Personally I can not see time being the healer here
      I'm guessing there has to be something wrong with my settings, but everything looks OK.....
      Any advise appreciated guys

      What are you line stats?

      Also? What speedtesters are you using; try Namesco BroadbandMax ADSL Broadband Bandwidth speedtest | Test your ADSL Broadband connection speed

      You should be clearing your browsers temporary files after testing (make sure test isnt cached)

      What Line Rate does your router advise;
      http://192.168.0.1
      Username: admin
      Password: sky

      Line Statistics... Copy and Paste that!

      Try the test socket behind the master socket

      http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/view-master.html

      And then post the stats

      So based on your stats;
      349kbps, upload about 600kbps
      That is fine including overheads!

      Just make sure you test your mastersocket's test socket, As based on your attenuation you line has the potential to connect to around 6mb!

      Re: another newbie needing guidance....(please!)

      does 349kbps = 3.49mbps?, cause the tests show 0.347mb ....
      I know my package is UP TO 16mb, but.......

      No - not master socket. Test socket (behind the faceplate assuming you have an NTE5).
