      Download speeds

Hi. I signed up to Sky connect about a month ago. I originally had a 512k connection. I have done speed tests with a lot of speedtest websites, they come back with a speed of around 4900kbps. Pc connected via ethernet to router.

      My question is :
Why do I only get a download speed of between 400 kbit/s and 1100 kbit/s when downloading files? (movies, music, etc).
      Any Ideas would be helpful.
      Thanks
      Scott

You are probably seeing the effect of traffic shaping which appears to be in place on Sky Connect. What application/protocols are you using to download movies/music etc?

Hi. I'm using Usenext to download as bittorrent is to slow. My mate on the same exchange gets approx 6500 kbit/s using Usenext with BT broadband.

I believe Sky is traffic shaping independently of BT on Connect. Presumably Usenext traffic is being caught by this.

you'll probably have to go onto another package. I doubt Sky will remove any traffic shaping regardless of how much you ask.

No point in contacting Sky. They're the ones that are doing it, presumably for commercial reasons.

I'm not familiar with Usenext but can you vary the port it uses (there's a small chance this may help)? If you can, try 443. If that doesn't help then a random port between 50000 and 60000.

How do I change the port it uses? Is this on the router setup 192.168.0.1?

does this mean Sky has sold me a duff product, if I can't download at the speed they told me I can?

Is there any traffic shaping on Max? I've not had gread speeds with torrents unless I've just been unlucky. Connected to 40+peers and 5seeds and sometimes only get about 20k.
