    No Internet (Intenet light not showing)

      No Internet (Intenet light not showing)

      I have been with Sky since September and the internet was working perfectly... until two days ago when I woke up and went to my computer to find out that there was no internet access.

      The netgear router's internet light is on and I have tried every possible way to fix it (reset router and restarted computer, used system restore, turned off router for twenty minutes before trying again, changed microfilters, etc.) but none of it has worked. Sky was useless since they kept on making me check things on a site but didn't ask me to make any changes.

      On the site http://192.168.0.1 I didn't seem to have an IP address which was very strange (just three ---).


      If there is anyone out there who can help me please, I am all ears and in desperate need for internet access.

      By the way I am using a dial-up connection right now in case anyone is wondering how I wrote this message with no internet, but people can't phone me so I can only go on for a few minutes at a time.

      Umm, could be as straight forward as a problem with your exchange, have you called SBB and asked?

      I'm confused. (but it dont take much!)

      Your title says internet light is not on but then in your post it says it is on?

      I assume that you mean not on and it remains not on even when plugged into the master socket (with filter), with all other phone equipment disconnected, including digibox?

      Yes, the internet light remains off even when plugged into the master socket with all other phone equipment disconnected including my Sky digibox.

      I've called Sky three times.

      First call: A routine check on your line. It should be fine soon.

      Second call: I don't understand, there was no check on your line. It should be working fine. (goes on to ask me to check these things which I have already done)

      Third call: There was a power outage in your area.... But wait, internet light isn't on? (proceeds to be friendly but not helpful).

      Does the i light flash amber when first switching on the router?

      If it does NOT I am sure this means no ADSL signal on the line and points to an exchange fault.

      Maybe someone else can confirm this.

      It remains off the entire time.

      If it is an exchange fault who do I have to contact? BT or Sky?

      You will have to talk to Sky, "tier 3" support.

      Have a look at the 'error 300' thread.
      If you were with an ISP before you moved to Sky, double check you haven't been moved back to them by mistake... call BT on 150 and ask who has markers or lineshare on the line, it should be Sky/Easynet.
      Other than those, call Sky.
