Almost dead speed and confusing information.

      Hi all,

I recently (in the last couple of days) got my Sky broadband finally sorted out after having to re-order it nearly 3 times and chase up Sky every week for 2 months.

I'm on the Max package and was getting speed of about 5mbps when it was first installed.

However, I've only been managing to get 1088kbps today and everything is taking an age.

I've rebooted and reset the router to no avail and I've phoned Sky to ask for help too - with no help being received.

My stats are as follows (all downstream)...

      Connection Speed - 1088 kbps
      Line Attenuation - 15.5 db
      Noise Margin - 6.9 db

Now, according to a 'rule of thumb' I found on here, that would put me about 1.12km from my exchange and would mean I should be getting 16000 kbps max.

However, the lady at Sky tells me I can only get 4500 kbps max and I'm 2.8 km from the exchange.

I'm at a bit of a loss as to what to do.

      Any ideas?

Thanks in advance and Merry Christmas.

      Graham

That 15.5 figure that your router is showing is meant to be a known glitch, i would reboot and see if you still get that figure.

Rebooting doesnt make a difference (Not to most anyway)

Use a PIN and RESET the router using the reset hole at the back!

I've tried that a few times. It does go up to 55db sometimes and back down to 15db again.

Apparently they've put me as a Level 3 problem and were going to call me on Friday. Yet again, nothing.

I'm getting quite fed up with this. Being told I'll be called back and hearing nothing, then having to chase them up and not getting anywhere fast.
